Center for Women and Children, Sehwan Sharif

About this initiative

A 2,000 square foot building located in Sehwan Sharif, steps away from the cross-provincial Indus Highway. But our purpose goes much further than a building—we need to nurture a community to the point where it can run itself on an upward socioeconomic trajectory.

A community where every person can play a role in getting the village out of abject poverty. Our starting point is to give women and children a place to go to where they can acquire fundamental literacy, unlocking the doors to broader understanding of the world which leads to new opportunities.

Update forthcoming

Progress Update (October 2022 – Catastrophic Floods)

The catastrophic floods submerged our facility with over six feet of water. While the building is out of commission, the humanitarian crisis is severe. Today it’s about averting loss of life and starvation, and tomorrow we will have a massive rebuilding effort ahead of us as core crops have been blighted and property has been destroyed. Our GoFundMe raised about £5,000 GBP to help our committees with core supplies, food, tents, mosquito nets, and medicine.

Progress Update (June 2022 – Core Construction Complete)

The building is constructed, we’ve put up walls, a roof, and are currently taking care of electricity wiring. Now we need funds to stock the interior: office furniture, computers, books, teaching supplies, kitchen equipment, and most of all, instructional staff.

We broke ground in December 2021 with the help of our local partner, All Syed Volunteer Organization (ASVO), which continues to be fundamental to manage fiscally responsible resourcing and community outreach.
